Former President Joe Biden<\/a> said Tuesday that radiation treatment for his prostate cancer<\/a> \u201cworked as intended\u201d and made a direct appeal to men to talk with their doctors about screening.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year it\u2019s more personal for me,\u201d Biden, 83, said in a statement<\/a> on X, more than a year after his office disclosed that he had been diagnosed<\/a> with Stage 4 prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones but was hormone-sensitive, allowing for treatment. He later underwent radiation and hormone therapy.<\/p>\n

While Biden said Tuesday that the treatment he underwent last fall was effective, he also thanked the medical professionals who continue to manage his cancer. He also said he remains active, including working to finish his memoir, \u201cPromise Me, America,\u201d which is set to be released Nov. 17.<\/p>\n

In the wake of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Biden emphasized the importance of early detection and urged men not to delay conversations about prostate cancer screening.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t put it off,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n

He urged Black men and those with a family history of prostate cancer to discuss screening earlier, noting that Black men face a higher risk of developing the disease. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Black men, according<\/a> to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalk to your doctors. Ask the hard questions,\u201d Biden said. \u201cDo it for yourself, and do it for the people who love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Biden\u2019s son Hunter offered a\u00a0more sobering assessment<\/a>\u00a0of his father\u2019s condition, saying in a BBC interview that the cancer had \u201cmetastasized into his bones and further\u201d and was \u201cvery painful\u201d and \u201cvery debilitating in many respects.\u201d<\/p>\n
