{"id":130542,"date":"2026-09-08T16:35:27","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T23:35:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marinresists.com\/?p=130542"},"modified":"2026-09-08T20:26:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T03:26:07","slug":"lindsay-clancy-jurors-describe-tense-deliberations-that-ended-in-mistrial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marinresists.com\/?p=130542","title":{"rendered":"Lindsay Clancy jurors describe tense deliberations that ended in mistrial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three jurors in the Lindsay Clancy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/news\/judge-says-he-will-declare-mistrial-in-lindsay-clancy-case-gives-defense-an-hour-to-file-appeal\">murder trial<\/a> spoke out publicly for the first time, describing the tense deliberations that ended in a mistrial and the frustration they felt with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/news\/lindsay-clancy-trial-jury-sent-back-third-time\"> lone holdout <\/a>who prevented the panel from reaching a unanimous verdict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcboston.com\/news\/local\/lindsay-clancy-trial-juror-interview-video\/4011169\/\">interview<\/a> with NBC Boston, one juror described the holdout as \u201cvery arrogant,\u201d adding he repeatedly dismissed information presented by other jurors, including nurses on the jury who discussed Clancy\u2019s medications and toxicology results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The jury foreperson said the holdout at one point acknowledged having reasonable doubt after the panel watched a video interview.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe admitted he had reasonable doubt, and I started filling out the forms. I was so excited,\u201d the foreperson said of the lone holdout. \u201cThen he said, \u2018But I\u2019m still not going to say that she\u2019s not guilty by reason of insanity.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A third juror explained \u201crogue\u201d might not be the right word to describe the holdout, but said he largely refused to engage with the rest of the panel as they reviewed evidence and repeatedly went over Judge William Sullivan\u2019s instructions on reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe would not interact with us and try to understand,\u201d the juror said, adding that the holdout had difficulty moving past the fact that Clancy had killed her children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accounts offer<strong> <\/strong>a new window into deliberations that led<strong> <\/strong>Sullivan to declare a mistrial Friday after jurors reported three separate times that they were deadlocked. The panel ultimately split 11 to 1, the three jurors confirmed to NBC Boston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day before the mistrial was declared, the foreperson told Sullivan in a note that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/news\/lindsay-clancy-judge-defense-attorney-clash-in-courtroom-exchange\">one juror was refusing<\/a> to follow the court\u2019s instructions on reasonable doubt. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington sought to have the juror removed, but Sullivan declined, saying it would be inappropriate for him to side with one juror or the other 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trial centered on Clancy\u2019s state of mind at the time she strangled her three young children \u2014 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan \u2014 with exercise bands in the basement of her home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023. Clancy does not deny killing her children and has given detailed accounts of how she carried them out to expert witnesses who testified at the trial and in a civil lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Clancy-Civil-Lawsuit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she filed against<\/a> some of her medical providers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Reddington argued she was suffering postpartum psychosis at the time \u2014 a rare psychiatric emergency that can affect women after childbirth \u2014 and urged the jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity, which would commit her to a state-run psychiatric institution and give her the opportunity to be reviewed for release in the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors, meanwhile, argued that Clancy intentionally chose to kill her children, pointing to the fact that she sent her then-husband out for errands before carrying out the killings. They sought a triple first-degree murder conviction, which would send her to prison for life without the opportunity for parole. The jury also had the options of convicting her of second-degree murder, which would lead to a life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole, or manslaughter, which carries up to a 20-year sentence per count.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz will decide whether to bring the case again and under which charges. Outside the Plymouth Superior Court on Friday, Cruz said he would not offer an immediate decision on a retrial, adding, \u201cThis was and has always been about getting justice for those three little babies.\u201d A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8hMklH0I2o0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">During an interview<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday with ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America,\u201d Reddington asked President Donald Trump to pardon Clancy, even though the president does not have the authority to issue pardons on state charges.
